Sometimes it's so hard to hold one's tongue,
never knowing how a misplaced phrase will be taken,
never wanting to offend.
But I can't help but wonder if the
world would be better with a bit more
bluntness
and
directness.
Would we fill up with hate
Or would we start to treat each other
with MORE love
because we knew how much our
actions or words
hurt the people close to us
because they didn't try to spare our feelings
and told us exactly how those words made them feel?
What is honesty worth?

Very interesting...I am a big fan of not putting others down so I may be one of those people who would rather bite her tongue than hurt someone else's feelings...although I do slip up every once in a while and blurt out EXACTLY what I'm thinking and it usually isn't very pleasant for whoever's on the receiving end. So I guess I believe there's a time and place for bluntness...I do use it when necessary but I do hold my tongue when I feel it necessary. It's a very interesting controversy. :D
Interesting indeed. I am VERY pro honesty, and I do believe that withholding truth is a lie. That being said, it is hard to speak truth and keep everyone happy. I just do my best to put my qualms out there in a tactful and respectful manner. There is a difference between blunt and rude.
I agree with both of you. I tend to follow the old adage: "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" but I definitely don't withold my honesty -- unless I don't know the person very well and am unsure of how they'll take it. And honesty can always be delivered politely. Manners first!
